The funds will be used to assist people affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the eastern part of the country.
Sarah Gordon-Gibson, WFP Country Director, emphasized the significance of this contribution in addressing the urgent needs of those facing acute food insecurity and severe malnutrition. She stated that the donation will strengthen the WFP’s ability to prioritize its operations and work collaboratively with the Chadian government.
The cash donation will be used to provide cash transfers to 56,000 Sudanese refugees and Chadians severely impacted by the multiple crises in the east. Chad is currently experiencing its worst lean season on record, with 3.4 million people facing severe food insecurity. Additionally, the country is grappling with devastating floods that have affected nearly a million people and submerged 251,000 hectares of farmland.
