Rabat and Banjul have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at promoting and protecting the rights of women, children and people in vulnerable situations.
Initialled by two ministers, Morocco and Gambia strengthened their bilateral relations by signing a major cooperation agreement in Rabat on Tuesday. The main objective of the agreement is to promote and protect the rights of women, children and people in vulnerable situations.
Aawatif Hayar, the Moroccan Minister for Solidarity, Social Integration and the Family, and Fatou Sanyang Kinteh, the Gambian Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare, signed this strategic document, which aims particularly to promote training in the field of social action.
At the signing ceremony, Ms Hayar highlighted the significant progress made by Morocco in the field of social action, characterised by the institutionalisation of dedicated professions.
She highlighted the programmes included in the agreement to support people with disabilities, the elderly and children, and reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to their effective implementation.
On the sidelines of the event, Ms Hayar also shared with the press the fruitful discussions she had with her Gambian counterpart, which focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of women’s economic empowerment.
She also spoke of the significant progress made by the kingdom under the enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI, highlighting the progress made in promoting the status of women and children, extending universal health coverage and strengthening social protection.
For her part, Ms Kinteh expressed The Gambia’s desire to strengthen relations with Morocco in order to work together to address the challenges related to the rights of women, children, the elderly and people with special needs.
She expressed her country’s interest in benefiting from Morocco’s experience, particularly in promoting women’s and children’s rights and social inclusion.
