A Nigerian singer and songwriter, Tiwa Savage, has cancelled her scheduled performance in South Africa to protest against the xenophobic attacks in that country.
Nigeria’s Channel’s Television report on Wednesday said that the hip hop star said in a tweet on Wednesday that she would no longer be performing at a DSTV festival scheduled to hold in Johannesburg later this month.
She described the attacks on Nigerians and other nationals in South Africa as “sick” and added that this was the reason why, she would not be participating in the festival.
I refuse to watch the barbaric butchering of my people in SA. This is SICK. For this reason I will NOT be performing at the upcoming DSTV delicious Festival in Johannesburg on the 21st of September. My prayers are with all the victims and families affected by this.
Savage’s reaction to the xenophobic attacks comes a day after talented Nigerian artiste, Burna Boy, vowed never to visit the country.
The self-acclaimed ‘African Giant’ took to his Twitter on Tuesday to vent over the recent attacks, stating that he had also had his fair share of xenophobic experiences in South Africa.
According to him, although his dream had always been to see a united Africa, that dream may no longer be feasible until the government takes decisive measures against the situation.
