Zambia and Japan have agreed in principle to sign an agreement for the promotion and protection of investments.
The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Monday that the decision was reached during the third round of negotiations held in Lusaka last week.
The Japanese delegation was led by Murakami Kenju, deputy director general of the African Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Zambian delegation was headed by Musokotwane Sichizuwe, director of industry at the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry.
The agreement aims to strengthen the legal protection of investments, promoting mutual investment between Zambia and Japan, and further enhance economic relations between the two countries.
Both sides will continue to work on the necessary procedures with the goal of “early signing and conclusion of the agreement.”
