Zambia and China have commissioned a memorial park to honour Chinese nationals who died during the construction of the Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) railway line in the 1970s.
The TAZARA Memorial Park, located in Lusaka, was commissioned by President Hakainde Hichilema and Chinese ambassador to Zambia, Du Xiaohui, on Wednesday.
The park has 36 graves for Chinese engineers and workers who died during the construction of the railway line that links Zambia and Tanzania, as well as a museum.
Hichilema thanked China for the support rendered during the construction of the railway line and said the memorial park would become one of his country’s key tourist attractions.
TAZARA was constructed between 1970 and 1975 and covers 1,860 kilometres from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to Kapiri Mposhi in Zambia.
