Zambian police have made two arrests linked to politically motivated violence in the eastern province of Chipata.
The police confirmed on Sunday that William Phiri and Zefe Mwale, senior officials of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) are being detained for allegedly aiding and abetting violence.
It is not clear if the pair will be charged.
They were suspected of orchestrating violence and threatening to burn down a Catholic radio station in Chipata.
Their arrests followed calls by President Edgar Lungu for the security forces take action against a series of violent acts thought to have been committed by PF stalwarts.
Lungu had expressed shock and outrage that despite the violence, the police had not sprang into action and arrest its orchestrators.
