Mnangagwa told journalists that the doctors, most of whom have not reported for duty since 1 December 2018, agreed to return to work after assurances that the first lady would “take their grievances to relevant authorities”.
This followed a meeting between Mnangagwa and the striking junior doctors at State House in Harare on Friday.
The breakthrough came a day after senior doctors joined a month-long strike by their junior colleagues who are demanding an improvement in working conditions and payment in US dollars.
The impasse between the doctors and the government has forced President Emmerson Mnangagwa to cut short his annual vacation.
