More than 300 homes have been damaged by heavy rains experienced in most parts of Zimbabwe since the start of the 2021/22 rainy season in October last year, state media reported on Sunday.
Quoting figures from the government’s Civil Protection Unit, The Sunday Mail said 320 homes, including five schools, had been damaged by floods, hailstorms, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds across the country as of January 5.
Hundreds of people have been left homeless while several others have been injured by the inclement weather conditions, which have mostly been experienced in the past three weeks.
CPU said at least 10 of the country’s 52 districts have so far been affected by flash flooding. These are Chiredzi, Chirumhanzu, Gokwe North, Gwanda, Hwange, Kwekwe, Mudzi, Muzarabani, Mwenezi and Shamva.
