Zimbabwe booked a place at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament set for Cameroon in January 2022 following a 1-0 victory against neighbours Botswana on Thursday night.
Perfect Chikwende of Tanzanian side Simba Sports Club headed the Zimbabwe Warriors into a first half lead – and the AFCON finals – during an entertaining Group H match played at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Botswana’s Francistown.
The victory means Zimbabwe moved to an unassailable eight points, three behind group leaders Algeria who also qualified with 11 points after settling for a 3-3 draw with Zambia in another Group H tie played in Lusaka on Thursday.
This means the game Monday’s final group tie between Zimbabwe and Zambia in Harare is now a formality for the Warriors.
The victory means that Zimbabwe has now qualified for the AFCON finals three times in a row, having done so in the last two tournament held in 2017 and 2019.
