The meeting of senior officials was jointly opened by Zimbabwe’s permanent secretary for foreign affairs and international trade James Manzou and his South African counterpart Kgado Mahoai.
The two officials called for the need to expedite implementation of agreements already signed by the southern African neighbours.
The senior officials meeting will be followed by a gathering of ministers from the two countries in Harare on 11 March.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa and South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa will co-chair the BNC on 12 March.
The BNC is the highest bilateral framework of cooperation between Zimbabwe and South Africa.
