APA-Johannesburg (South Africa) South Africa’s former president Jacob Zuma is free to express himself as to whom he will vote for in next year’s general elections in the country, President Cyril Ramaphosa has told the media in Johannesburg.
The president was addressing the media on Monday when reporters asked him to react to Zuma’s statement over the weekend in the economic hub of the country.
“Everyone in our country is free to express themselves in relation to who they will vote for and why they will vote for them,” Ramaphosa said.
In a long statement on Saturday, the former president announced that he would not vote for, or campaign for the governing African National Congress (ANC) which he once led and has been its member for over 60 years.
Ramaphosa said the nation heard the announcement from Zuma, “and that is how we are prepared to go at this point in time.”
