Cote d’Ivoire, chosen to host this international event, will be the center of reflection on issues related to water and sanitation.
At the close of the 90th session of the Scientific and Technical Council of the African Water Association (AWA), an agreement was signed this Thursday, October 24 in Abidjan between the said organization, the Water Supply Company of Cote d’Ivoire (SODECI) and the Sludge Management Alliance (FSMA).
This responds to the organization of the 21st Congress of the African Water Association (AfWA) coupled with the 7th Conference of the Alliance for the management of sludge (FSMA) to be held in Abidjan from 19 to 23 February 2023.
The Director General of SODECI, Ahmadou Bakayoko who attended the signing ceremony was pleased that Cote d’Ivoire is designated to host these meetings.
“This signature is another step of our ambition through this congress,” he said, marking his commitment, while reassuring that Cote d’Ivoire will do its part for the success of the event that will mobilize some 3,000 participants.
He also hailed the productivity of the work of the 90th Session of the water which helps in making concrete proposals for the success of the congress and the addressing of major issues on water management and sanitation.
The Executive Director of FSMA, Jennifer Williams, did not fail to note the interest of his organization to be associated through this congress to the AAE in order to undertake joint actions for the happiness of the people.
“Our collaboration with AAE will be strengthened in the field of sanitation which is our area of coverage,” she said.
Mr. Pape Diop, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the 90th Session of the CST said he was satisfied with this meeting, which takes place as a prelude to the Congress in February, given the reforms suggested to make AAE even more effective because of these current challenges.
He said that this involves the reorganization of the various structures of the organization and its scientific committee, calling for strong institutional support and the support of various donors.
The executive director of AAE, Sylvain Usher, remains optimistic about the scope of exchanges between the various members of the association because they will enrich. He assured that the reflections will address practical cases for each country on the issue of water and sanitation.
