Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno Wednesday issued a decree, summoning senators of the first legislature for their installation on March 7, 2025.
The convening of new Senate follows the Constitutional Council’s announcement of the final senatorial election results and the appointment of 23 additional senators under the presidential quota.
The results heavily favoured the ruling Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS), which secured 43 seats, while the opposition clinched just three.
A separate decree, signed on March 5, designated the Palace of Arts and Culture in N’Djamena as the Senate’s official seat.
For the first time in its political history, Chad is establishing a Senate comprising 69 members—46 elected and 23 appointed.
