The French Development Agency (AFD) invested €536 million in Morocco in 2024, prioritizing sustainable development, social inclusion, and the reduction of carbon emissions across key sectors.
AFD’s 2024 investments focused on several key areas: A significant €350 million was dedicated to a partnership with OCP, a leading Moroccan fertilizer producer, to support the development of a more sustainable industrial model and foster innovation in climate-friendly industries. €102.6 million was allocated to expand Morocco’s mandatory health insurance (AMO), strengthening social protection for millions of citizens.
AFD provided an €800,000 grant to the Institute of Solar Energy and Renewable Energies (IRESEN) to support innovation in hydrogen technology. Additionally, €26 million, including a €1 million grant, was allocated to support regional development in Guelmim-Oued Noun. €51.5 million was allocated to gender-responsive budgeting to integrate gender equality considerations into public policies.
Beyond public sector investments, AFD, in collaboration with Proparco and Expertise France, has actively supported the growth of Moroccan small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through the Morocco-France Investment Accelerator Program.
Looking ahead, AFD plans to expand its presence in southern Morocco, focusing on sustainable resource management, green infrastructure, and social development, with a particular emphasis on education and vocational training.
Quiterie Pincent, AFD Director in Morocco, emphasized the agency’s commitment to supporting Morocco’s economic transformation through sustainable and inclusive investments. She highlighted the importance of continued collaboration with public and private partners to deliver high-impact development projects.
