The African Development Bank (AfDB) has provided development finance valued at more than US$600 million to eSwatini since 1974, an official said on Thursday.
Deputy Director-General of the AfDB’ Southern Africa Regional and Delivery Service Office, Josephine Ngure said the bank has supported projects in eSwatini’s finance, agriculture, energy, transport, governance and water and sanitation.
“The bank’s support addresses the needs of key target groups in the country,” she said.
She however noted that AfDB’s engagement with the eSwatini private sector has “so far been very insignificant, limited to a line of credit worth $25 million to eSwatini Development Finance Corporation.”
Ngure is leading an AfDB delegation that is in eSwatini to market the bank’s products to civil society organizations, among other groups.
