In a move to strengthen its strategic partnerships, Ethiopia is reaching out to Japanese investors and the initiative is part of the country’s economic reforms and reflects Addis Ababa’s desire to diversify its international partners.
Ethiopian Foreign Minister Dr. Gedion Timothewos received Japanese Ambassador Shibata Hironori on Thursday for talks on strengthening bilateral relations and investment opportunities.
During the meeting, the head of Ethiopian diplomacy highlighted the “age-old ties” that bind the two countries and placed special emphasis on the economic potential that Ethiopia offers to Japanese investors.
In particular, the minister referred to the economic reforms undertaken by his country and invited Japanese companies to “explore the opportunities” arising from them. This invitation is part of Ethiopia’s strategy to attract foreign investment to support its economic growth.
The two diplomats reaffirmed their shared desire to deepen this historic partnership, which could be revitalised by the economic changes underway in Ethiopia.
This meeting comes at a time when Ethiopia is pursuing an open-door economic policy and seeking to diversify its international partnerships to support its development.
