Guinea’s justice minister has suspended the prosecutor at the Supreme Court, a prominent figure in the trial over the September 28, 2009 massacre, for failing to comply with his statutory obligations.
Minister of Justice and Human Rights Ibrahima Sory II Tounkara signed an order on August 18, 2026, suspending magistrate Algassimou Diallo from his duties.
The order states that Diallo, Prosecutor General at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Guinea, is suspended “for failing to comply with the statutory obligations attached to his status as a magistrate.” The document does not specify the nature of the alleged misconduct.
The order provides for the matter to be referred to the Superior Council of the Judiciary for disciplinary proceedings, in accordance with the Statute of Magistrates. The suspension took effect on the date the order was signed.
Magistrate’s career synonymous with massacre trial
According to Africa Guinée, Algassimou Diallo was appointed on December 29, 2021, as public prosecutor at the Dixinn Court of First Instance, where he led the prosecution of former junta leader Moussa Dadis Camara and several former members of the CNDD in the trial over the September 28, 2009 massacre at a stadium in the capital Conakry.
The minister who signed the suspension order, Ibrahima Sory II Tounkara, had himself served as president of the Dixinn Court of First Instance, which presided over proceedings in the trial, before being appointed president of the Conakry Court of Appeal and subsequently Minister of Justice.
According to Guineenews, Algassimou Diallo was appointed Prosecutor General at the Kankan Court of Appeal by presidential decree on November 1, 2025, before subsequently being appointed Prosecutor General at the Supreme Court.
