Air Zimbabwe has confirmed that one of its flights encountered a midair malfunction on its way from neighbouring South Africa on Sunday.
The agency in a statement said one of the plane’s engine had suffered a hitch after taking off from South Africa’s main international airport.
It described the incident as “a brief tail pipe fire”, which did not affect the continuation of the Boeing 767-200ER flight.
Air Zimbabwe said the plane in question eventually landed safely in Harare and scared passengers disembarked and tweeted their experiences on board the aircraft.
The agency has since grounded the plane as ivestigations get underway to determine the cause of the malfunction.
