APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) The African Union is set to hold its fifth Mid-Year Coordination meeting on enhancing synergy in its efforts towards Africa’s integration.
“The meeting on Sunday will bring together Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Regional Mechanism (RMs) and member states to review the progress of the continental integration agenda,” the Union said on Wednesday in a statement.
The meeting will address the obstacles of continental integration by exploring avenues to enhance integration including the promotion of free movement and the African passport, connecting African infrastructure, financial markets, and a common African market to accelerate trade, and businesses in Africa.
Efforts on resource mobilization to finance Agenda 2063 will focus on Africa’s economic recovery and implementing initiatives to address challenges in agriculture, infrastructure, debt, climate change, security, energy, and health.
The conference will be preceded by a two-day AU Executive Council meeting, beginning Thursday.
The ministers, the AU said, will discuss various issues on the progress on the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area as the AU theme of the year 2023.
The Council is also expected appoint some members of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR); the AU Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC); and three other bodies of the commission, the statement noted.
