The kidnapping occurred around 7:30 PM local time. Following the incident, the Regional Security Council (CRS) convened an extraordinary meeting, and authorities immediately launched a search operation to locate Ms. Gretzmacher.
General Ibrah Boulama Issa, Governor of the Agadez region, chaired the meeting and emphasized the deployment of “significant additional security measures” in response to the kidnapping.
Ms. Gretzmacher was a well-respected member of the Agadez community, having lived there for 28 years. She founded the organization “Amanay,” which focused on education, women’s empowerment, ecology, culture, and art.
The Agadez region, located in northern Niger, is a strategically important area that faces significant security challenges. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
