APA – Kigali (Rwanda) An Austrian tourist accidently frowned in Lake Kivu (Southwestern Rwanda) as he was swimming, a senior local administrative official confirmed to APA Saturday in Kigali.
The victim who was identified as Robert Nenzinger has also been visiting the area for some volunteering activity at Nyamasheke catholic parish in Southwestern Rwanda.
The Mayor of Nyamasheke district, Appolonie Mukamasabo explained that the accident happened late Friday evening when the victim slipped into a deep hole and drowned in the middle of Lake Kivu.
Lake Kivu which lies on the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda is described by experts as unsafe for swimming because there are vast quantities of methane gas trapped in the deep waters.
