Ten Nigerian soldiers were reported killed in an ambush by Boko Haram insurgents on Saturday along the Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu road in Borno State in northern Nigeria.
The report by Nigeria’s Vanguard newspaper on Monday said that 20 fighters of the Boko Haram sect were also killed during the ambush.
The report added that one of the soldiers lost his life along Pulka-Ngoshe road in another operation.
The newspaper, which quoted several sources, claimed that 10 soldiers were injured during the attack, while some others are still missing as the Nigerian troops were said to be heading to their base at Ngoshe town close to the Nigerian border with Cameroon.
The report said that a passenger, Ali Isa, who managed to escape the attack, stated that several members of the Boko Haram sect laid ambush along Damboa road at about 2pm and opened fire on the military escort vehicles and this resulted in the exchange of gunfire, which forced many victims to flee into the bush for safety.
The Nigerian military authorities have not issued any statement on the attack.
