Botswana’s Vice President and Finance Minister Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe has urged citizens to adopt a more rigorous approach to managing public funds during a budget speech addressed to local authorities on the 2025-2026 budget.
“Every pula must be accounted for and directed towards projects that bring real added value to the population,” Gaolathe stated during his address, themed “Your Budget, Your Right.”
The Vice President emphasized that fiscal discipline was not only an “administrative responsibility” but also a “moral obligation.”
To achieve this goal, he advocated for several concrete measures: regular maintenance of infrastructure to avoid costly repairs, elimination of unnecessary expenditures, diversification of revenue sources and the fight against corruption.
These budgetary guidelines are part of the preparation for the upcoming 2025-2026 fiscal year, as the country seeks to optimize the management of its public resources.
