APA – Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) – In Burkina Faso’s capital, Ouagadougou, fuel and hydrocarbon distribution stations and outlets are proliferating illegally.
Of the 788 gas stations operating in Ouagadougou, only 235 have an opening order issued by the ministry responsible for energy. A further 553 service stations are operating without prior authorization from the Burkinabe government.
These official figures have been made public by the transitional government, carried out from 13 March to 19 April 2023 in the city of Ouagadougou.
“Following an inspection of the infrastructure for the distribution of petroleum products and derivatives, a number of illegal hydrocarbon distribution stations were identified,” Simon Pierre Boussim, Minister for Energy said.
He added that measures would be taken in the short term to help stations that were not complying with the rules to regularise their situation.
“Stations that have not taken these steps within this timeframe and that do not comply with the rules will be closed down outright,” Minister Boussim threatened.
