The Burkinabe customs authorities confirmed the seizure of 23 trucks in Dakola, carrying illegally exported cowpeas and shea nuts.
The total value of the seized goods is estimated at 68 million CFA francs.
Of the 23 trucks seized, 22 were transporting 8,930 sacks of cowpeas, valued at 66 million CFA francs, while one truck carried 625 sacks of shea nuts, valued at 2 million CFA francs.
The goods were said to have originated from Niger and were destined for illegal export to Ghana.
This seizure comes amid a broader regional effort by Burkina Faso and Niger to prohibit the export of cereals outside the Alliance of Sahel (AES), a coalition of Sahelian countries.
The measure is aimed at preserving food security in the region, which faces growing economic and climatic challenges.
The Burkinabe General Directorate of Customs praised its teams for their exemplary work, emphasising the importance of their role in protecting the national economy.
