The army has commented on the origin and nature of the shooting.
Shots were heard Wednesday evening around the national television station, not far from the Presidency of Faso, several sources reported.
Several witnesses reported that an individual forced his way through the security barriers around the Presidency of Faso.
“The shots heard in downtown Ouagadougou were warning shots aimed at alerting a reckless person,” the General Staff of the Burkinabe Armed Forces (EMGA) said, confirming the incident.
For the moment, nothing has been released about the identity of thatperson, let alone his motives. The army has not provided any detailson this subject.
Instead, it has assured that the situation is under control, invitingthe population “to remain calm and go about their businesspeacefully.”
However, some young people mobilized at the United Nations trafficcircle to, they said, to support President Captain Ibrahim Traore.“Whoever plays games with Captain Traore will have to deal with us. Weare the VDPs (civilian auxiliaries of the army) of Captain Traore. Aslong as we don’t see IB (Ibrahim), we won’t go home,” a demonstratorwarned.
