Several incidents related to jihadist groups have been reported in several areas across the country.
A supply convoy escorted by military units, returning from Djibo, was the target of an ambush on Monday June 26, 2023 in the district of Namsiguia (Bam Province, Centre-Nord region), the army reports in a statement issued Tuesday evening.
The army describes the fighting as “particularly violent,” causing heavy casualties and material damage, “despite the vigorous response of the units.”
The provisional toll is 31 soldiers and three VDPs and some 20 more wounded who have been evacuated and treated by health facilities, the army says.
“Ten or so elements are still being sought by reinforcements deployed to continue combing and fighting back,” adds the General Staff of the Armed Forces, indicating that more than 40 terrorists have been neutralized.
Some 30 VDPs were killed in the Centre-Nord region
Another terrorist attack targeted the VDP base at Noaka, in the Centre-Nord region, according to various sources.
Unofficial figures put the death toll at over 30 civilian army auxiliaries.
In retaliation, the Volunteers neutralized several dozen assailants.
Several sources spoke of “Black Monday,” pointing to further incidents linked to jihadist groups.
