APA-Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) The head of the military junta has signed several decrees reorganising the national armed forces.
Captain Ibrahim Traore signed a decree creating a National Commando Training Center (CNEC).
Located in the Pô Garrison and under the command of Captain Bado Patrick Anicet, the CNEC’s mission is to provide training, qualification and hardening in commando techniques for military and paramilitary personnel.
Other decrees create five new Rapid Intervention Brigades (BIR), in Titao, Djibo, Toma, Kantchari and Pama.
Captain Traore formalizes the creation of the ‘Brigade Speciale et d’Intervention Rapide’ (BSIR), whose main mission is to combat terrorism through “special operations and rapid intervention” and the protection of institutions, sensitive installations and VIPs.
Placed under the direct authority of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, i.e. the president of the transition, it brings together and coordinates, among others, all the BIRs, whose number has now been increased to 25, the Special Forces Group, the Republican Guard and the Support Command Group.
In power since September 2022, Ibrahim Traore has initiated a reorganisation of the army to deal with armed terrorist groups.
