APA-Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) Activist Wendpouire Charles Sawadogo had been detained since last Thursday by the authorities who accused him of “sharing intelligence with foreigners” to “destabilise” Burkina Faso.
“The truth cannot be bargained for.” This is the first publication of the activist, Wendpouire Charles Sawadogo on Facebook, after four days of detention.
“I am free since this morning at 9:30 after nearly 96 hours in custody,” he said.
He then expressed his gratitude to those who supported him and to “those who slandered me, I forgive you. May the Lord guide us to the truth.”
He explained that it was on Wednesday evening, April 26, that he received a notification to go the next day Thursday to the Central Brigade of Fight against Cybercrime (BCLCC).
On the spot, investigators asked him questions about his publications on jihadist groups.
“They asked me if I received money from a foreign country todestabilise the transition. I said no,” the activist said on the private radio station, Omega FM.
“I did not receive money (…). Even if someone offered me, I would never do it (…) I will never destabilize the transition,” he said.
The Collective of Journalists, Activists and Opinion Leaders Victims of Threats in Burkina Faso had, in a statement Friday, indicated that the transitional authorities accused Sawadogo of “the crime of intelligence with foreigners with a view to depose the regime in place.”
The collective had denounced a “cabal mounted from scratch to put a disruptive activist out of business” and demanded his immediate release.
