Cameroon’s Minister of Secondary Education, Mrs. Pauline Nalova Lyonga, was in Abidjan on Wednesday, October 23, to “study the reforms of the Ivorian education system” and was granted an audience with the Ivorian Minister of National Education and Literacy, Mrs. Mariatou Koné.
During a working session at the office of the Ivorian Minister of National Education and Literacy, Ms. Pauline Nalova Lyonga, the group was able to inquire about reforms in the Ivorian education system, in particular the digitization of administrative and teaching processes.
“We came to learn from Cote d’Ivoire’s experience in education, especially in the digitization of its education system. In the search for partnerships, we learned that Huawei is accompanying Côte d’Ivoire,” said Ms. Pauline Nalova Lyonga.
Chinese IT giant Huawei is supporting the Ivorian government in its vision to digitally transform education. Lyonga praised the “excellent work” being done through digitalization in the country’s education sector.
“We are very pleased with Cote d’Ivoire’s openness and willingness to share its experiences with us. Cote d’Ivoire’s experience can help us solve the many problems facing our education system,” she added.
The Ivorian Minister welcomed the visit as part of South-South cooperation. She described the visit as “an open door for cooperation” and said she was “very happy that a sister country wants to be inspired by our education system.”
Professor Koné noted that the digital education project, funded by the State of Cote d’Ivoire, aims to connect the structures of the Ministry of Education. The digital education project should eventually allow the creation of distance learning classrooms and the installation of video surveillance systems to ensure security during school exams.
According to Koné, the project has already been implemented in 149 locations, giving teachers and students access to quality education, even at a distance. The project also benefits from the cooperation of partners such as the World Bank.
She noted that the project also aims to modernize the Ivorian education system by taking advantage of digital technology, while addressing specific challenges related to access to education and security.
At the end of the discussions, Lyonga, who stressed the importance of the digital transformation of education in her country, promised to experiment with this Ivorian experience.
She said that her visit to Côte d’Ivoire had been “fruitful” and had laid solid foundations for future cooperation in the digitalization of education in Cameroon.
