A delegation of ten Caribbean diplomats on Monday commended the socio-economic progress and dynamic development of Dakhla during a visit to the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region.
Organised by the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation, the visit to Morocco’s southern province aimed to showcase the region’s potential for investment, partnerships, and trade expansion.
Tamira Browne, Director of Foreign Policy and Research at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, highlighted the roadmap established between Caribbean nations and Morocco to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various sectors. She referenced Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves’ visit to Morocco in July, during which discussions focused on agriculture, fisheries, and tourism.
Browne expressed admiration for Dakhla’s integration of sustainability into its development strategy, emphasising how this approach ensures both economic growth and the preservation of natural and energy resources for future generations.
Denise Sealy, Chargé d’Affaires at the Jamaican Embassy in Berlin, praised Dakhla’s beauty and Morocco’s commitment to sustainable development in its regions. She highlighted the country’s successes in sectors such as fisheries and seawater desalination, expressing Jamaica’s interest in deepening cooperation with the kingdom.
El Khattat Yanja, President of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council, noted that the two-day visit was an opportunity to showcase the region’s development model, launched by King Mohammed VI in 2015. He also underscored major investment opportunities and structural projects, including the Dakhla Atlantic Port.
During the visit, the delegation met with regional governor Ali Khalil and other local leaders to discuss development and investment prospects. The diplomats also attended a presentation by Munir El Houari, Director of the Regional Investment Center, on the region’s progress across various sectors.
As part of their two-day tour, the Caribbean delegation will visit the Dakhla Skills Center, dedicated to youth empowerment, and the city’s artisan complex.
