Cote d’Ivoire, through its Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, took advantage of the 40th edition of CERAWeek, the world’s largest energy exhibition, to present its investment opportunities in the country’s oil and gas sectors.
In this context, the Ivorian Minister in charge of Oil, Mr. Thomas Camara, led a delegation of technicians from his department to take part in this 40th edition of CERAWeek, which opened its doors on March 7, 2022 in Houston, USA.
During this meeting that brings together experts from around the world, patrons, leaders of major companies in the energy sector and decision makers, these actors took part in a panel around the theme “The upstream in Africa, where will the investments go.”
Mr. Thomas Camara took this opportunity to showcase the oil investment opportunities in Cote d’Ivoire, upstream, while presenting the energy potential of the country, including the development of the Whale field.
The Ivorian minister articulated the ambition of Cote d’Ivoire to increase its level of oil production from 29,000 barrels per day currently to 150,000 barrels per day.
In the same vein, he said that the country wanted produce from 260 Mpci to 350 Mpci of gas by 2030.
In this perspective, Mr. Thomas Camara said that the Ivorian government intends to increase production on the blocks in production with new phases of development and optimize the production of the whale field.
The country is looking for new partners to develop the blocks with proven reserves that are blocks CI-523, CI-525, CI-202, CI-103, and intensify deep water exploration.
This ambitious program of development of the oil and gas sector, will be completed by the establishment of a Data Room to allow companies to consult anywhere in the world, the data of the sedimentary basin of Côte d’Ivoire to make the decision to invest, he said.
Continuing, Mr. Thomas Camara informed his interlocutors of his ambition to involve Ivorian structures in the implementation of this program so that they contribute to the creation of value, including through the development of local content.
The investors and tycoons of the oil and gas sector have highly appreciated the richness of the development program of the Ivorian state which plans to create high-level specialized masters with the IFP School to give adequate technical training to young people.
This training should allow supplying the whole value chain of the oil industry with qualified manpower.
Cote d’Ivoire wants to encourage international companies to increase cooperation, use and transfer of technology.
“We focus local content on increasing the value added of local goods and services in the value chain, in support of the government,” the Ivorian Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy noted.
In pursuit of his activities, Mr. Thomas Camara visited, on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, on the sidelines of the second day of CERAWeek 2022, the oil company Halliburton, a multinational para-petroleum company, second largest provider of services to the oil and gas industry in the world, and present in 70 countries.
He was pleased to touch on the wide range of specialties of this company that will be present in Côte d’Ivoire, through a number of works it will carry out on behalf of the Italian company ENI, operating on the Baleine oil field.
The agenda of this high conference has allowed the Ivorian minister to discover, through the visit of various laboratories, the latest technologies operating in the field of drilling, technologies that, in his opinion, could be used to stimulate the emergence of a dynamic and efficient local content, active in the entire oil chain.
He also had a very fruitful meeting with Mr. Julien Perez, Vice President of Oil & Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI). This global reference structure aims to accelerate the oil industry’s response to climate change.
