APA – N’Djamena (Chad) – The Minister of National Reconciliation, Abdramane Koulamallah, assured Chad’s opposition that the government’s vision is to encourage exiled citizens to return home.
Following calls for reconciliation by the exiled leader of the Transformers, Succes Masra, Minister Abdramane Koulamallah has responded favourably to suggestions that he can end his exile.
Speaking to RFI, the minister in charge of reconciliation said the government was ready to welcome opponents.
“I have precise instructions from the head of state not to leave any Chadian outside. If he (Succes Masra) wants to come home, the door is open,” he said.
According to the minister, the opposition leader’s demands no longer correspond to the priorities of the day.
“We’re not against dialogue, but we’re not going to have a second dialogue. I don’t think we’ll go back on what we’ve already done,” he said firmly, rejecting Masra’s proposal for a dialogue between the government and disgruntled groups.
While Koulamallah assured us that the Transformers leader’s safety is guaranteed, he has reservations about any legal action that might be taken against him.
“I don’t think he will be arrested, but if he is prosecuted, he will probably answer for his actions. But I don’t think we’ve pardoned members of the Transformers and I don’t want to see Masra go to jail. I think the general climate is one of reconciliation,” he added.
The minister said it was time to build support for the transition process, not to question it.
“We have made a lot of progress. We still have institutions to build and elections to organize. It’s better to accept the process that many Chadians have accepted,” he advised those who continue to oppose the transition process.
