Moussa Saleh Batraki, former Chadian Minister of Economy, has been elected Secretary General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).
Batraki’s election was validated by Joao Lourenço, current President of the OACPS, and marks a historic turning point, being the first time that a Chadian holds this position.
In a statement, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the impact of Chadian diplomacy internationally.
He said: “The historic election of Moussa Saleh Batraki to this position testifies to the influence of the leadership of the President of the Republic, Head of State, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, who places the promotion of Chadian executives in international institutions at the heart of his priorities”.
For his part, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno congratulated Batraki on his rise and thanked the friendly countries that supported his candidacy.
“I would like to salute the qualities of our candidate, which have made the difference, as well as the constant support of our diplomacy and the valuable assistance of brotherly and friendly countries. I
wish him every success in his new role. It is up to him to promote South-South cooperation and strengthen cooperation between the OACPS and the European Union,” he said.
This success strengthens Chad’s position as a key player in multilateralism and reflects its commitment to supporting South-South cooperation. It also demonstrates the country’s ability to play a major role on the international stage.
Chad thus reaffirms its desire to actively contribute to promoting the values of the OACPS and
achieving its objectives.
