Chad’s Constitutional Council has confirmed a sweeping victory for the ruling party in the Senatorial elections.
The final results of Chad’s Senatorial elections were officially declared on Tuesday by the Constitutional Council.
According to its President, Me Jean-Bernard Padaré, only two petitions were filed by candidates and after the review, the Council ruled in favour of the petitioners.
Following the results announced, in the Western Logone province, the ruling Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS) lost one seat to the National Rally for Democracy in Chad–The Awakening (RNDT-Le Réveil).
Similarly, in Mayo-Kebbi West, the MPS conceded a seat to the Union for Renewal and Democracy (URD).
The definitive results affirm a landslide victory for the MPS, securing 43 seats. The RNDT-Le Réveil claimed two seats, while the URD took one.
According to the Constitution of Chad, the additional 23 senators will be appointed by the President of Chad.
