Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera has dissolved the country’s entire cabinet amid a corruption scandal that has sucked in one of his ministers.
Chakwera said in a televised address to the nation late on Monday that he would announce a new cabinet by Wednesday.
“I have dissolved my entire cabinet effective immediately, and all the functions of cabinet revert to my office until I announce a reconfigured cabinet in two days,” Chakwera said.
The Malawian leader said the new cabinet would exclude current Lands Minister Kezzie Msukwa who is facing corruption charges.
The minister has been accused of criminal abuse of office involving allegedly taking bribes from a prominent businessman in exchange for allocation of land.
Msukwa becomes the third minister to be sacked by Chakwera following the dismissal of former labour minister Ken Kandodo and ex-energy minister Newton Kambala over corruption charges.
