A Chinese company specialising in the cement sector would acquire a cement plant in Tunisia starting next week for over US$100 million, China’s ambassador to Tunis, Wan Li announced.
In an interview with the TAP television studio on Sunday, March 23, 2025, the Chinese diplomat stated that the acquisition of a cement plant is the first direct Chinese investment in the country in several years.
He emphasised that this transaction, worth over $100 million, will allow for the introduction of modern technologies and the renovation of equipment at the plant, located near Tunis, with an expected positive impact on the environment and industrial performance.
According to him, this project is a strong signal of the growing interest of Chinese companies in the Tunisian market. However, he noted that the latter are still unfamiliar with the specificities of the local regulatory framework, calling for increased exchanges to facilitate investment processes.
The entry of the Chinese private sector into Tunisian industry, combined with the revival of symbolic infrastructure projects, demonstrates a mutual desire to strengthen bilateral ties through long-term investments.
