APA-Johannesburg (South Africa) South Africans woke up to lower fuel prices on Wednesday, thanks to the decision by the energy ministry to marginal slash pump prices of petrol and diesel on the back of a decrease in average Brent crude oil prices over the past month.
While the cost of living in the country continued to escalate, consumers of diesel, paraffin and gas had a respite on Wednesday following the price decrease in all fuels.
The price of 93-grade petrol decrease by one cent per litre, while 95-grade petrol now sold two cents lower per litre, energy ministry spokesperson Robert Maake said.
Diesel 0.05% has been lowered by some 73 cents a litre, while diesel 0.005% is selling at 74 cents lower per litre, he said.
The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin has decreased by R1.24 per litre, while the retail price of cooking gas decreased by 92 cents per kg, Make said.
He attributed the drop in pump prices of fuel in South Africa to a drop in the average price of Brent crude oil on the international market.
“The average international product prices of petrol have decreased following the lower Brent crude oil prices during the period under review,” the official said.
