Côte d’Ivoire has presented to the educational community its National Strategy for the Digitalization of Education in Côte d’Ivoire, called “SNDECI 2024-2028”.
According to the Director of Technology and Information Systems, Mr. Kone Yenetaban, the presentation of the SNDECI on Thursday, October 24, 2024 aims to ensure in 2025, quality, equitable and inclusive training that takes into account the transformation needs of the citizen.
The Minister of National Education and Literacy, Mariatou Kone, stated that the project is part of the desire to transform education in Côte d’Ivoire, in response to the challenges of access and quality of educational provision, noted during the general assembly of the National Conference on Education.
Kone explained that the programme also aims to promote “more efficient, transparent and participatory management (of the education system) at all levels, through the use of modern tools and our country’s educational policy.”
“By integrating modern technologies into our schools, we reduce geographical, social and economic inequalities, thus enabling the education system to provide more interactive and attractive education to every child wherever they are,” she said.
This document was presented at the premises of the Directorate of Examinations and Competitions (DECO) in Abidjan. The Minister insisted that digitalization does not replace traditional education, but complements and enriches it to offer children a more connected education.
She stressed that the implementation of this strategy requires an investment of 220.7 billion CFA francs, which will be used to train teachers and administrative staff, acquire digital equipment and set up modern technological infrastructure in schools.
The Ivorian Minister of Education launched an appeal to technical and financial partners as well as the private sector to support the implementation of this initiative. She also invited communities to fully engage in the process.
Present at the SNDECI presentation ceremony, Cameroon’s Minister of Secondary Education, Ms. Pauline Nalova, expressed her pride in sharing Ivorian expertise in the digitalization of the education system.
The UNICEF representative in Côte d’Ivoire, Mr. Jean François Basse, welcomed this “innovative” initiative, which is in line with the UN institution’s objective of providing children with an educational framework that prepares them for the challenges of today, but also those of tomorrow.
For him, by integrating digital technology into the heart of the learning process in the education system, “Côte d’Ivoire is positioning itself as a pioneering player in the modernization of education in West Africa.” Mr. Jean François Basse reaffirmed UNICEF’s commitment to supporting the implementation of “the SNDECI (which) will formalize the transformation towards digital education, by offering each child in Côte d’Ivoire adapted and accessible digital tools.”
