APA-Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) During a visit to Cairo, the Speaker of Cote d’Ivoire’s National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, Adama Bictogo, held talks with high-ranking personalities, including the Egyptian Prime Minister, Moustafa Kemal Madbouli, and Amr Adawy, Vice-President of EgyptAir.
In addition to talks with officials, Adama Bictogo held discussions with investors. He was granted an audience with Mr Amr Adawy, Vice-Chairman of Egypt Airlines, which will be re-establishing services to Côte d’Ivoire in order to facilitate trade.
Egyptair suspended its flights to Abidjan in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Service to Côte d’Ivoire’s economic capital from Cairo will resume from 10 July 2024 at a rate of three flights a week, with a stopover via Accra.
On Tuesday 20 February 2024, Adama Bictogo met the Egyptian Prime Minister, Moustafa Kemal Madbouli, in Cairo, as part of discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations based on diplomatic, political, economic and cultural interests.
His meeting with the Egyptian Prime Minister, Moustafa Kemal Madbouli, took place 24 hours after a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Hanafy Ali Gebaly, and the President of the Senate, Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razek.
During their intensive discussions, the two authorities reviewed the main areas of cooperation in the bilateral relationship between Côte d’Ivoire and Egypt, including political, economic, energy and environmental aspects.
The President of the Ivorian National Assembly stressed above all that, in view of the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly changing global geopolitics, such a partnership would only be beneficial to both countries.
The visit to the Prime Minister’s office, located in the heart of the new administrative capital was the final episode of a three-day visit punctuated by political and diplomatic issues. However, Mr. Bictogo was able to adjust his schedule to receive key decision-makers from Egyptian industry.
Mr. Bictogo also met Roger Maher, the Africa representative of the Manufacturing Commercial Vehicles (MCV) group, which was set up in 1994. Based in Cairo, the global automotive manufacturer supplies commercial vehicles worldwide, particularly to European markets.
The head of the company told the President of the Ivorian National Assembly, Adama Bictogo, of the Manufacturing Commercial Vehicles Group’s ambition to set up a local bus manufacturing unit in Côte
d’Ivoire.
The visit to Egypt by the President of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, which began on Sunday, ended on Tuesday afternoon with a visit to the new administrative capital, some fifty kilometres east of Cairo.
The Ivorian delegation led by Adama Bictogo included several MPs: Kacou Guikahue Maurice, Vice-President of the National Assembly (PDCI, opposition), Oulaye Hubert, Chairman of the PPA-CI parliamentary group
(opposition, Laurent Gbagbo’s party).
It also included Famoussa Coulibaly, Special Adviser to the president of the National Assembly (RHDP, ruling party), Merhy Samy (RHDP, ruling party), president of the Côte d’Ivoire-Egypt Friendship Group, and Fofana Salimata Meite, member of the RHDP parliamentary group.
