The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has recorded 1,717 new cases and 29 new deaths of COVID-19 in past 24 hours, official figures show on Wednesday.
The new cases were recorded in Burkina Faso (21), Cape Verde (17), Ivory Coast (85), Gambia (58), Ghana (486), Guinea (93), Guinea-Bissau (15), Liberia (6), Mali (18), Nigeria (571), Senegal (211), Sierra Leone (18) and Togo (118). The new deaths were recorded in Burkina Faso (2), Gambia (2), Ghana (2), Guinea-Bissau (1), Niger (2), Nigeria (12) and Senegal (8). West Africa now has 381,175 total cases, 4,887 total deaths and 335,031 total recoveries.
Nigeria (153,187) has the highest total cases compared to Ghana (81,245), Senegal (33,453), Ivory Coast (32,124), Guinea (15,580), Cape Verde (15,089), Burkina Faso (11,868), Mali (8,324), Togo (6,466), Benin (5,434), Niger (4,740), Gambia (4,612), Sierra Leone (3,880), Guinea-Bissau (3,171) and Liberia (2,002).
Moreover, Nigeria (1,874) has the highest total deaths compared to Senegal (840), Ghana (584), Mali (348), Ivory Coast (188), Niger (172), Gambia (146), Cape Verde (144), Burkina Faso (141), Guinea (87), Liberia (85), Togo (81), Sierra Leone (79), Benin (70) and Guinea-Bissau (48).
Also, Nigeria (129,943) has the highest total recoveries compared to Ghana 74,047), Ivory Coast (31,096), Senegal (27,893), Guinea (14,798), Cape Verde (14,608), Burkina Faso (11,293), Mali (6,305), Togo (5,388), Niger (4,250), Benin (4,248), Gambia (4,089), Sierra Leone (2,612), Guinea-Bissau (2,578) and Liberia (1,883).
Africa has registered 3,877,290 total cases, 102,386 total deaths and 3,426,266 total recoveries while the world has recorded 112,872,337 total cases, 2,501,277 total deaths and 88,468,384 total recoveries.
