APA – Kigali (Rwanda) – Danish Minister of Immigration and Integration Kaare Dybvad Bek has announced Denmark’s decision to take in 200 refugees under the 2023 quota.
The Danish official was quoted in a statement Friday as saying that the selected refugees will mainly consist of people from refugee camps in Rwanda, as well as Eritrean and Afghan refugees who have sought refuge in neighbouring countries.
In a statement, the Department of Immigration and Integration said that, as last year, women and children will be a priority.
“We need to limit the number of irregular asylum seekers who arrive here through cynical human traffickers. It is terrible that officials are emptying the coffers while migrants are drowning in the Mediterranean,” the statement quoted Kaare Dybvad Bek, Denmark’s Minister for Immigration and Integration as saying.
In addition, the top Danish official highlighted his government’s strong support for a system that facilitates the arrival of refugees in Denmark through well-organized arrangements. He also stressed the importance of the number chosen, stressing that successful integration depends on effective flow management.
According to the Danish official, caution must be exercised in order to strike the right balance. “I strongly believed that maintaining the quota of 200 refugees was a reasonable approach to achieving that balance,” he said
Denmark has consistently honoured its commitment to take in 200 quota refugees per year, extending this practice throughout 2020, 2021 and 2022.
