President William Ruto Thursday praised the Kenyan diaspora for contributing $4.94 billion to his country’s economy last year alone.
He was speaking in Cairo, Egypt where he was meeting his compatriots living in the North African country.
”Kenyans in the diaspora are playing a crucial role in our economy, remitting more than $4.94 Billion in 2024. Undoubtedly, they have become our largest foreign exchange earners” he told them.
The Kenyan leader praised the contributions of his compatriots abroad, describing them as Kenya’s greatest asset thanks to their knowledge, skill and experience.
”Globally, Kenyans are renowned for hard work and innovation, and this explains the high demand for them in many parts of the world” he added.
Mr Ruto has been on a state visit to Egypt where he met and held talks with his counterpart Abdel Fattah al Sisi and signed the Joint Declaration for a Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership.
”We have elevated our relationship and strengthened our ties to boost our engagements in various fields” he wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
Through the course of Ruto’s state visit, the Egyptian and Kenyan governments signed 12 agreements for cooperation in various spheres of human endeavour.
According to Ruto ”these agreements will strengthen trade, investment, education and research, and technological exchanges, among others, unlocking immense opportunities for our two nations”.
