APA-Dakar (Senegal) – Following the March 24 presidential election in Senegal, his Ivorian counterpart sent him “warm congratulations” and “best wishes” to then President-elect, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye chose Côte d’Ivoire for his fourth trip abroad, having previously visited Mauritania, The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau.
According to the Senegalese Press Agency (APS), President Faye is expected in Abidjan on Tuesday 7 May for a few-hour State visit. On Monday, the official account of the Ivorian presidency on X (formerly
Twitter) revealed a telephone conversation between Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Alassane Dramane Ouattara, without giving further details.
Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire are united by long-standing relations and are the driving forces behind the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). Trade between the two countries was valued at more than 800 billion CFA francs in 2018, according to the Senegalese Export Promotion Agency (ASEPEX).
Following the presidential election of 24 March, the President of Côte d’Ivoire sent his “warm congratulations” and “best wishes” to then President-elect, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, adding: “I look forward to continuing with him the excellent relations of friendship and brotherhood between Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal.”
On 2 April, when Senegal’s fifth president was sworn in, Côte d’Ivoire was represented at the ceremony by its vice-president, Tiemoko Meyliet Kone. Last Thursday, Bassirou Diomaye Faye received the credentials of the new Ivorian ambassador to Senegal.
