Ouédraogo, who met President José Mario Vaz on Monday, congratulated the Head of State, the Prime Minister and the people of Guinea-Bissau on “the progress towards stability and democracy.”
According to the former Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, ECOWAS is gathering information from 40 election observers across the country before presenting its preliminary report.
Ouédraogo recalled that “Guinea-Bissau is an important member of ECOWAS” that has invested a lot of effort to ensure that the legislative elections are held on time.
Since the dismissal of Prime Minister Domingos Simões Pereira four years ago now, Guinea Bissau has been going through a political crisis. Indeed, the various governments set up by the executive branch have not received the support of the National Assembly of Guinea-Bissau, which regime is parliamentary.
The provisional results of the legislative elections will be announced tomorrow Wednesday by the National Electoral Commission.
More than 761,000 voters were called to the polls last Sunday to choose the 102 deputies who will sit in parliament. A total of 21 political parties participated in this electoral contest.
