APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Ethiopia has sent a delegation to the United States to attend scheduled talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over financial support.
The high-level government delegation is attending the World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings 2023, taking place from April 10 to 16 in Washington.
The IMF and Ethiopia made progress in talks on the fund’s support for the country’s economic reform program last week.
“We made progress in discussing the scope for IMF support for this reform program,” said Alvaro Piris, who led the IMF team’s 10-day long visit focused on technical work in preparation for a potential IMF-supported program.
The two sides agreed to continue discussions in the context of the IMF-World Bank Meetings that started Tuesday.
Finance Minister Ahmed Shede and National Bank Governor Mamo Mihretu are leading the Ethiopian delegation attending the meetings.
On the sidelines of the IMF-WB meetings, the delegation held several meetings with IMF officials followed by the World Bank, IMF and International Finance Corporation (IFC) teams.
The meetings include briefings related to recent and current situations, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the U.S, Seleshi Bekele said.
And the “economy, financing and partnerships that are important to Ethiopia’s development are discussed,” the envoy added.
Similarly, finance minister Ahmed and Central Bank Governor Mamo also met with Governor Yi Gang of People’s Bank of China.
The two central banks agreed to collaborate on digital finance, financial sector investments, and other related issues, according to the National Bank of Ethiopia.
