Ethiopia has secured a $60 million in grant from the World Bank to support vulnerable populations in climate-stressed and conflict-affected parts of the country.
The finance ministry and the World Bank signed the grant agreement through which the bank would implement its Innovative Systems to Promote Integrated, Resilient, and Enhanced Responses to Women and Girls’ Health (INSPIRER) project., a statement issued by the ministry stated on Thursday.
INSPIRER aligns with Ethiopia’s Health Sector Development Investment Plan (HSDIP) prioritising in strengthening health systems through climate resilience, digital solutions, and equity interventions to improve women’s and girls’ health outcomes.
Accordingly, the project will directly benefit 15 million women and girls in drought-prone regions such as Afar, Somali, and Gambella, while strengthening health systems nationwide.
The agreement was signed virtually on February 23, 2025 by Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance and Maryam Salim, Division Director for Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, and South Sudan at the World Bank.
