Ethiopia will build its embassy in Kigali, Rwanda shortly, the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said.
Taye Atske-Selassie, Minister of Foreign Affairs over the weekend laid a cornerstone for the construction of the Ethiopian embassy in Kigali, Rwanda.
The ministry said the Rwandan government has granted 7771 square meters of land for the construction of the embassy building, a decision that came following the official working visit of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to Kigali.
After laying the cornerstone, Atseke-Selassie expressed that the land allocated to the Ethiopian embassy in Kigali is the manifestation of growing diplomatic and bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Rwanda.
He indicated that Ethiopia will reciprocate by granting a similar parcel of land for the construction of the Rwandan embassy in Addis Ababa.
The minister said the government of Ethiopia will build and make the embassy ready for service in the following months.
Ethiopia and Rwanda have signed a total of 23 agreements and memorandums of understanding since 2012, said Atsekeselassie noting that the new embassy building will help promote their bilateral relations to a higher level.
Ethiopia was credited to support Rwanda in its struggle for independence from colonial rule and during the aftermath of the genocide in 1994,
