The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva lauded Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reform as “rewarding.”
Georgieva made the remark at a press conference over the weekend in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, following the conclusion of her two-day visit to Ethiopia.
“The society should rally behind the government’s economic reform,” Georgieva urged, expressing her belief that Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reform will lead to transformation in the country.
She emphasised the importance of unity in supporting the government’s economic initiatives, assuring IMF’s continuous support for the success of Ethiopia’s economic reform.
During her stay, she visited various social and development sites, including the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum.
She remarked, “You (Ethiopians) make Africa proud,” and expressed her amazement at the transformation of Addis Ababa.
As part of her visit, the IMF managing director also met Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other high-ranking government officials.
Prime Minister Abiy commended the IMF for its continued technical and financial support for the country’s economic reform programs.
The East African country of more than 120 million people has made a number of liberalizing reforms in recent months in a bid attract investors.
