Former Belgian prime minister Herman Van Rompuy on Tuesday extolled what he called the serious progress by the country in relation to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals or SGDs.
He was speaking while paying a courtesy call on Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Kigali, commending what he called the tremendous developments taking place in the country.
In a statement made earlier, Van Rompuy praised Rwanda’s efforts in fast tracking the realisation of SDGs.
“These efforts have led to a significant reduction of poverty in Rwanda,” he noted.
Mr Van Rompuy is a former Prime Minister of Belgium and an ex President of the European Council.
He also occupied the position of head of the European Policy Centre.
The European Union is described as Rwanda’s biggest development partner.
The Africa-EU Partnership is the formal channel through which the European Union and Africa work together.
It is based on the Joint Africa-EU Strategy adopted by heads of state and government at the second EU-Africa Summit in 2007.
